چکیده

23 In the present study, we examined the effect of amphotericin B on larval stages (miracidia and 24 primary sporocyst) of the helminth Schistosoma mansoni, the causative agent of human 25 schistosomiasis. Amphotericin B (AmB) is a polyene macrolide that disturbs the function of the cell 26 membrane; it is widely used as prophylactic antimycotic agent in in vitro culture. We show for the 27 first time that S. mansoni miracidia infectivity is considerably reduced after AmB treatment. 28 Moreover we demonstrate that AmB does not affect the development, growth, viability, and 29 behavior of miracidia and primary sporocysts. Our data indicate that AmB effects on S. mansoni 30 sporocyst prevalence are linked to the oxidative properties of AmB. These may alter the capacity of 31 sporocysts to respond to the oxidative stress generated by the snail immune defence system. 32 33

The effect of early infection with Echinostoma paraensei on the interaction of Schistosoma mansoni with Biomphalaria glabrata and Biomphalaria tenagophila.

Infection caused by the trematode Echinostoma paraensei has been shown to interfere in the natural resistance to infection by Schistosoma mansoni. Biomphalaria glabrata is susceptible to infection, while Taim isolate Biomphalaria tenagophila is resistant to infection by S. mansoni. These two snail species were assessed for infection with E. paraensei two days after exposure to S. mansoni miraci...

Resistance of Biomphalaria occidentalis from Varzea das Flores dam, Minas Gerais, to Schistosoma mansoni infection detected by low stringency polymerase chain reaction.

Biomphalaria occidentalis Paraense, 1981 from Varzea das Flores dam, MG, Brazil, was exposed to infection with Schistosoma mansoni. Individual infection was performed with 140 B. occidentalis and 100 B. glabrata snails using LE and SJ strains. Two groups of B. occidentalis were killed after seven day-miracidia exposure to detect S. mansoni DNA, through the low stringency polymerase chain reacti...

Studies on host-parasite relationship between the Puerto Rican strain of Schistosoma mansoni and Biomphalaria snails.

Immunoelectrophoretic studies on common antigenicities were carried out by using rabbits sera immunized with the Puerto Rican strain of Schistosoma mansoni adult worms or eggs and antigens of several adult Biomphalaria snails and vice versa. As the result, S. mansoni adult worm extracts produced 8 bands both with extracts of Biomphalaria glabrata pigmentation and B. glabrata pigmentado, 3 to 4 ...

Primary culture of the region of the amebocyte-producing organ of the snail Biomphalaria glabrata, the intermediate host of Schistosoma mansoni.

Biomphalaria glabrata snails are major hosts for the digenetic trematoda Schistosoma mansoni, the causative agent of human schistosomiasis. The success or failure of the infection will be dependent on the mobilization of the molluskan internal defense system, where a major role will be played by circulating hemocytes produced by the APO (amebocyte-producing organ) of the snail. In this report, ...
